Raison d'etre

The Federation of Independent Mines (FIM) is a trade association dedicated to furthering the interests and welfare of coal producers and associated industry. The Federation is committed to encouraging skillfully managed, highly efficient and safe business.

The FIM conveys the interests of members to Government, with direct access to M P's in the Commons and the European Parliament. The FIM is in contact with the Health and Safety Directorate and the Coal Authority.

The FIM can represent and assist in acquiring financial assistance or information regarding training, research and development etc. We can advise on legal matters including common law, employment law and mining laws.

We have contacts in insurance and can assist with negotiations for Employers Liability and Public Liability. The British Coal Industry employs 8,000 people directly and a larger number indirectly, the investment in plant and equipment is in excess of £1 billion. The industry needs a pro-active voice.
