Coalpro's Environment Code
  • 1) To carry out all operations relating to exploration, winning, treatment and transfer of coal and related products in a manner which ensures that any environmental effects are fully considered and mitigated.
  • 2) To ensure a rigorous examination of all elements of the environment takes place before operations commence, and to undertake the works in such a manner to minimise the possibility of resultant adverse effects.
  • 3) To protect and, whenever possible, to enhance the environment and amenities of communities in the vicinity of Members' activities.
  • 4) To protect wherever possible existing wildlife and ecological habitats and seek at every opportunity to create new facilities.
  • 5) To maximise opportunities to improve the landscape and environment by reclaiming and enhancing areas of dereliction, despoliation and contamination.
  • 6) To positively respond to new National, Regional and Local environmental initiatives such as community forests and wildlife reserves, through the working and restoration of appropriately located sites.
  • 7) Efficient utilisation of resources by economic and sensitive working of coal and other associated mineral deposits together wherever practicable.
  • 8) To employ, where practicable, the latest developments in machinery and equipment to minimise the effects on the environment and the amenities of local communities living close to sites.
  • 9) To promote the highest operational standards for Members' activities and seek to ensure that the function efficiently.
  • 10) To develop and operate, wherever practicable, standards which are higher that those required by current law, regulations and codes of practice. Instruct regular environmental audit reviews in respect of ongoing operations.
  • 11) To adopt and improve procedures to ensure a close liaison between sites and local communities in order to ensure an effective response to the interests of the community.
  • 12) To seek to ensure that all Members' employees perform their duties in a manner consistent with this Code.
  • Promote training, health, safety and research and development of all aspects of the business. Such research will, amongst other matters, include energy efficiency, clean burn technology, environmental standards and restoration techniques.
  • Promote the highest practicable standards of operation to lessen the impact on the environment and amenities, including close liaison with local community groups.
  • Adhere to full statutory environmental controls, and will support the continued development and reinforcement of such controls.
  • Adopt an environmental code which will be regularly reviewed and updated.
  • Coalpro will regularly monitor the Members to ensure their compliance with the Charter.
